With the success of previous superhero movies and comicbook/cartoon series, Hollywood has prepared a long line of up-and-coming movies that will surely leave you wanting and waiting and eagerly anticipating till they come to the big screen. Here are some of the most anticipated megamovies out to hit the theaters and cinemas soon:

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen I can’t wait til this one comes out! The sequel to the 2007 live action film Transformers by Michael Bay. We can be sure that Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the rest will return to the big screen in 2009, together with the new (confirmed) cast of robots: Arcee, Jetfire, Skids, Trax, and Sideswipe for the Autobot team, and Soundwave, Ravage, and the Constructicons for the Decepticons team. And it looks like some of the robots who “disappeared” in the first film will have a comeback, too. You can view the official site of the Transformers movie here. Right now, they still haven’t released an official trailer since the movie is still in production. Maybe in the next few weeks or so. Release date (USA): 26 June 2009 |

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Reprising his role as Wolverine from the “X-Men” movies, Hugh Jackman stars in the blockbuster which, according to VARIETY, could feature a young William Stryker, Sabretooth, Weapon X and a bevy of other mutants—both returning and new characters. (source) Hugh Jackman is more than PERFECT for the lead role. He’s always been the character that gracefully carried the X-Men film franchise, although The Last Stand kinda sucked. It’s great that the producers thought of creating this movie. I bet it’s gonna be a blast watching this! Release date (USA): 1 May 2009 |

From IMDB: “A young boy named Goku seeks out upon his grandfather’s dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls (of which he has one) in order to prevent Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world.” I’m really very intrigued and anxious on how this movie will come out. I’m a bit of a Dragonball anime fan myself, and personally I think story concepts like Dragonball are very difficult to realize. However, I’m not losing hope (since it’s directed by famed James Wong, produced by Stephen Chow, and casted Chow Yun Fat). According to the official site, the official trailer is yet to be released on December. However, you can view the unofficial trailer here. Release date (USA): 10 April 2009 |

Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince The story revolves around Voldemort’s past, the student’s safety at Hogwarts, more love interests among the characters, new and old rivalries, and a book found by Harry which belonged to a certain “half-blood” prince. Check out the official site for more details and trailers. I’m a bit losing taste of these HP movies, probably because the cast are MUCH older now. I got used to the idea that Harry’s a kid and not some hormone-pumping teenager. But I’m pretty sure I’m going to watch this one; after all, it’s still a WB-produced Harry Potter movie. Release date (USA): 17 July 2009 |

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
I must say I’m a bit disappointed at not finding Kate Beckinsale in the movie’s cast. Although it’s does make sense, since the story’s timeline happened before the first Underworld movie. And they did cast an equally hot actress, Rhona Mitra, who eerily looks like Kate! I think I know why, and those who are familiar with Underworld‘s plot/storyline also does. Check out the official site for more of this intriguing Underworld prequel! Release date (USA): 23 January 2009 |

This is NOT a sequel to the 2004 The Punisher movie. It’s what they call a “reboot”, something which is not related to the story of the previous Punisher movie (like what they did with the Incredible Hulk). Ray Stevenson, the actor who plays “Titus” in HBO’s Rome, will be playing the lead role of Marvel’s favorite one-man army, Frank Castle. Personally, I think Thomas Jane did a pretty good job in the The Punisher 2004 movie, although John Travolta’s portrayal of a villain is a bit lame. Check out the official site of Punisher: War Zone for more goodies. Release date (USA): 5 December 2008 |

Get ready, G.I. Joe fans! The much awaited live action movie is finally here. From Wizard: Now an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, the G.I.J.O.E. team is an anti-terrorist fighting force based out of their headquarters, “The Pit.” They still battle Cobra, although Cobra commander is rumored to be a more shadowy, Emperor Palpatine-like leader in the film. Hmm…Emperor Palpatine-like? Very intriguing… Check out G.I. Joe at IMDB for more info. Release date (USA): 7 August 2009 |
Movie Monitor: The scoop on the hottest and most current projects in Hollywood!Let’s take a peek into what the producers are cooking in Hollywood’s magic kitchen. Here are some of the movies that would be, could be, or would be not: |

Superman: The Man of Steel Estimated release date: 2011 (source) Finally, another (Brandon Routh as) Superman movie! Not much news about this, however, only a few facts like Brandon Routh reprising his role as the man of steel, and that this is going to be a “reboot” instead of a sequel (lots of reboots going on these past few months). The script is at works as we speak, and a lot of fans are already ants-in-the-pantsy about this new Superman movie. Checkout the movie’s unofficial site for more news and updates!

Spider-man 4 Estimated release date: 2011 (source) Your friendly neighborhood Spidey is back! And now with creepier villains ever…(source) Personally, I enjoyed all three Spider-man films (with Tobey Maguire), and I expect the same enjoyment on this new up-and-coming sequel. Kirsten Dunst also confirmed portraying her role as Mary Jane Watson once again. You can check out this site for more Spidey updates! |

Status: Announced Est. release date: December 2011 Reference: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/ Local Shire Hobbit Bilbo Baggins, relative of Frodo Baggins, is living a quiet, peaceful life until Gandalf the Grey walks into his home with a band of wandering dwarfs and drags poor Bilbo into a quest that entails defeating a dragon, a three way battle of men, dwarfs and monsters and, most importantly of all, lead Bilbo into contact with a peculiar ring that has had and will have a great impact on the future of their world. |

Jurassic Park IV: Extinction Est. release date: 2010 (source) A lot of talks and rumors about this sequel since 2001! And now on it’s pre-production stage, writers and producers of the (literally) ground-breaking franchise Jurassic Park are making sure not to disappoint the long-waiting horde of fans (it’s weird I’m kinda hearing the JP theme in my head right now!) JP is definitely one of the most amazing Steven Spielberg-produced movie of all time. “Hapless humans once again are pitted against dinosaurs created from ancient strands of DNA.” -from ComingSoon.net |

Voltron: Defender Of The Universe Status: Announced Est. release date: 2010 From Wikipedia: Voltron is a series of animated television programs, the first of which was titled Voltron: Defender of the Universe. There has since been a second series, made in the 1990s using CGI techniques. The 1980s Voltron series was based on two vaguely-related Japanese anime series GoLion and Dairugger XV (both originally produced by Toei Animation & Bandai). Wow! I really hope they pull this movie off as great as those who did Transformers the movie! But sad news for anticipating fans like me, because of recent news that the budget was drastically cut and the producers might go for a CG film instead of a live action one. Latest news: http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/08/18/voltron-movie-finally-coming-together-with-a-smaller-budget/ |
Here are more movies to watch out for – or at least hope for (there are possibilities that some of these movies get cancelled along the way, and it would be a shame if they do…not to mention some did got hit by the recent writers’ strike.)Prince of Persia: Sands of Time |
